Sculpture in Central Otago - 2011

Images of sculptures below

Sculpture in Central Otago operates under the Wanaka Arts Charitable Trust (WACT), whose primary aim is to promote sculpture and fine art throughout New Zealand with particular emphasis on the Wanaka and Central Otago Region. While celebrating the landscape, the talent and diversity of New Zealand sculptors and the beauty of Rippon Vineyard, the event also contributes to the local community, making a financial donation each year to a community project.
Ensconced within a landscape both beautiful and dramatic along the western shores of Lake Wanaka, over 35 sculptures are to be positioned to form a sculpture trail. The sculptures have been sourced from throughout New Zealand and vary in size, medium and price, all being suitable for outside placement.

New Zealand’s leading sculptors are invited to exhibit at Sculpture in Central Otago. The 2011 line-up includes Gary Baynes, Russell Beck, Graham Bennett, Julie Butler, Bing Dawe, Paul Dibble, Jane Downes, Ben Foster, Greg Johns, Mark Hill, Martin Hill, Philip Jarvis, Duncan Leask, Cheryl Lucas, Ernie Maluschnig, Doug Neil, Rose Petterson, Dan Rutherford, Anna Scott, Jenny Smith, Johnny Turner, Richard Wedekind, Mark Whyte, Shane Woolridge, James Wright and Bruce Young.

Access to the sculpture trail is from the vineyard tasting room with a catalogue and map available. The trail will be open through Easter and also the Festival of Colour which is held in mid April. Sculpture in Central Otago 2011 is a fun-filled event which captures and celebrates the vitality of New Zealand sculptural practice. Make it the highlight of your visit to Wanaka before the exhibition closes on 1 May.
