Thomas Elliott
Thomas Elliott has established a narrative and style visibly his own. ‘I propose the enigma that exists beneath the surface of the world. I render this through my figure painting.’ states Elliott. His monochromatic paintings are powerful explorations of human relationships. Enigmatic figures emerge from the darkness evoking imagery of myth and ritual.
This body of charcoal drawings are mysterious and evocative, seemingly melancholy personal portraits. Allowing the viewer to identify with Elliott’s drawing aptitude these works on paper offer something all together different. Intimate and recognisable as a vulnerable moment in life.
Thomas Elliott graduated from Otago Polytechnic in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He was the Cleveland Art Award winner in 2000 and 2001. Elliott was also a finalist in the 2006 Norsewear Art Awards. He featured in Warwick Brown’s 'Seen This Century’ book that featured contemporary collectable artists. Elliott has a strong exhibition history in New Zealand and his work features in private collections world wide.
