Current Exhibition Details Nicky Foreman - 2008 PaintingsThis work came about after a drawing I did last year in the studio of Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence, France. I have been to this studio numerous times over the last 7 years and find it peaceful, a place to have clarity on my own thoughts on painting. I did a rough sketch of the side of the room that is all windows but purposefully did not take any photographs. I did not wish to only render what I saw. For me the work tries to capture by looking out the window the feeling I have when standing in the room- the quiet energy of the space. The painting is a hommage to Cezanne. The objects along the bottom of the work have all appeared in Cezanne's paintings and are all in his studio still. It is a piece of work I felt compelled to paint, I grappled with it daily and had no idea what the finished product would look like. It was challenging, somewhat a risk and I am content with its conclusion. I have spent a lot of time around this region in France and always welcome the change of light, colour and atmospheric difference into my work.
