Wayne Seyb - Paintings
Wayne Seyb's works cover a broad spectrum of inspiration and his recent works are no exception. Some with figurative elements and other abstracts that he terms 'landscapes of the mind'. This body of work will also display a collection of wood cuts and a three part screen painted on either side. Colour, energy and texture explode within the white scerenity of the Arthouse.
Artist's Statement:
I often have the feeling that I am painting from the landscape’s point of view. The landscape seems to be looking at me rather than I at it. What I am really painting is my experience of the landscape. It is an internal landscape, a landscape that lives in me. These studies called “Judgement Day” are like imagined lopsided pages of a great wooden book. Their texts are from the first book ever written – “The Epic of Gilgamesh” as well as Plato and Darwin and things have I heard on the radio. They attempt to make sense of the thought of finality. The figure paintings grew from woodcut collages. This made it easier to put arms, legs and the rest in arbitrary places. Emotions can take a while to become coherent. They began with elusive fragments and slowly became whole. I ended up writing poems to go with the images. These became a woodcut book called “The Palace of Mirrors."
