Artist Overview

Kate Fitzharris

Ceramic artist Kate Fitzharris uses her sculptural installations to express her observations of domestic life.  Usually comprising fired clay and recycled fibre, her wall-mounted installations have a fragile and vulnerable appearance, offset by their character of playfulness and whimsy.  Fitzharris's work continues to develop along new ideas embracing a darker edge to these intimate creatures.  Since graduating from the Otago Polytechnic School of Art Fitzharris has earned a strong reputation as an original and accomplished ceramicist.  She won the Award for non-functional pottery at the New Zealand Potter's Association exhibition held at the Christchurch Art Gallery in 2008.
