Artist ProfileDavid MurrayDavid Murray is a highly respected New Zealand glass artist. He has won awards including the prestigious Australasia glass art award the Ranamok prize. Murray has exhibited exstensively nationally and internationally and his work features in collections across the globe. He is a graduate of the Otago Polytechnic School of Art.By utilising the qualities of glass Murray works to "achieve a silent presence" within each piece. There is a fluidity of form in the 'Gatherer' and 'Hunter' collections. Curves subtlely emerge as light filters across the glass. The smooth surfaces are credited to Murray's background as a professional mould maker. The 'Territory' series continues to display exceptional skill by creating ambiguous land formations. One side being perfectly smooth whilst the other is built up through precisely pouring the glass to achieve the impression of layered rock.
